Date Ideas That Won’t Break The Bank

The economy sucks.  Everyone is trying to be budget conscious, but that doesn’t mean you need to compromise dating.  Rather, you just need to…alter your plans a bit.  Here are some ideas.

  1. The weather is muggy and just way too humid, but that shouldn’t stop you from a wonderful picnic – at home.  Surprise your sweetheart by preparing a picnic basket, lay some towels (more cushy and comfortable) on the floor of your home, turn off all the lights, light some candles, and enjoy a nice picnic together.  It’s cheap yet puts a spin on the more traditional candlelit dinners
  2. Go camping – again at home.  Instead of sleeping on the bed, sleep on the floor in your sleeping bag.  To create some ambiance, buy some CDs (or get them online) of nature sounds and glow in the dark sticker stars.  This is especially romantic for those city-girls or city-boys who would not survive in the real wilderness.  It’s kind of like Tom Cruise taking Penelope Cruz trick or treating
  3. Pick out a recipe together (something complicated and requires team work), get the ingredients and make dinner together.  You hit two birds with one stone: you get to see how your man/woman handles himself/herself in the kitchen, and you get to make a tasty dinner (hopefully it’s tasty)
  4. Game night.  It can be an intimate game of scrabble or some TLC with his PS3.  Make it interesting by adding a sexy wager.  It can even be a quadruple date.  Get a group of friends together, order in and play games
  5. Pick a favorite movie filmed in your current city and try to go to all the places you see in the movie scene by scene on foot.  I think this is an especially great idea if the couple is exploring the city together or one is new to the city.  P.S.  I think this is a great surprise present.  For example, make your own Sex And The City NY walking tour and then surprise him/her with a “sweetie, we’re going to Mexico!” (like the 4 socialites did in the movie).  Or, California since the Mexican resort scenes were actually taped in a private home in Malibu (pictures here)
  6. Tap your inner artist.  Set a low budget, go to an arts and crafts store, pick out some materials and create a masterpiece together.  It can be everything from painting to making a photo frame together.  Ladies, check out if he’s handy with the tools
  7. Give each other relaxing facials and head massages.  Guys, you know you love your skin soft and glowing too.  Take some wacky pictures of each other in your mud mask; they make for a good laugh afterwards
  8. Camp out for real.  Take your date and go to a place where you can set down a blanket and lay down as you gaze up at the stars together (take the romance up a notch by picking a spot near a lake or pond).  Talk about your childhood, snack on some finger food and make a wish upon a star.  I wish I may, I wish I might, get myself a kiss good night…

What are some of your ideas?
