Love Is A Leap Of Faith

Love is a leap of faith.  You never know until you jump.  Two people, two languages, two continents, two cultures, two weeks and one chance.  They met, fell in love, now what?  He was from the United States, and she, Russia.  He was doing a study aboard program that ends two weeks from when he met her.  Though their two-week romance was short, it was also very sweet.   All things come to an end; and he sadly left Russia, leaving his heart behind.

Several months after his departure from Russia, he returned to ask for her hand in marriage. Knowing very well that if she accepted, she would leave her country, her family, her friends, and all that she’s ever known.  But, she was given a one in a million chance at something that could be amazing, true love.  Though it was risky, she took it and never looked back.

Even though they only knew each other for two short weeks while in Russia, their marriage is stronger than those who dated for years before getting married.  Many of us, myself included, are too cautious, and tend to overanalyze everything before making a decision.  But, then it becomes a matter of the head, and not the heart.

I spoke to many happily married friends, and asked them if they were 100% positive that their husband / wife was “the one.”  Not surprisingly, half of them said they were unsure on the day of their wedding, remain unsure today, but took the jump anyway because “you never know.”

So does that mean we should just hold our nose, and jump?  No, but we should not expect for clear cut answers to questions like: “is he/she the one?”  You know yourself best; if you know you are an overly cautious or analytical person, then you will probably never know for sure because you probably require concrete proof (that you will never get for matters of love) to really “know.”  If you are a true romantic (and decide to get married before the passion in the relationship fizzles), then you may “know” for sure if that person is “the one.”

As for me, I believe that if you find someone you love, and they want the relationship to work as much as you do, then make the decision to do so, and work at the relationship.  All unions are imperfect, because humans are imperfect, but if you work at your relationship, you can make it work.

  1. agreed!! … if you find someone you are compatible with and who wants the same things and is willing to make the same effort as you are then that person is “the one” for that time.

relationships require much effort. they are more than expectations and hopes and dreams
